Who it's for
Anyone in Texas who assembles, collects, stores or transmits protected health information, and their employees, agents and contractors.
The rules
The Texas Medical Records Privacy Act (Health and Safety Code Chapter 181) requires covered entities to train employees on state and federal privacy law within 90 days of hire, and again within a reasonable time after a material change, keeping a signed statement until the sixth anniversary. It also covers electronic disclosures, marketing and sale of health information. Chapter 183 adds storage and access rules for electronic health records.
Train employees on Texas and federal privacy law within 90 days of hire
Retrain after a material change in law
Keep a signed statement of training for six years
This course supplements HIPAA training. It does not by itself satisfy the whole of Section 181.101.
The course
The course is built in modules, each with short lessons, real-world scenarios and quizzes. Here is what each module is for.
Module 1
Texas medical privacy provides the starting point for this module. Recognize the subject's workplace relevance and use that context to approach later practice.
Module 2
From that starting point, work through practical cases that deepen your understanding. Apply the learning to medical privacy decisions that demand closer attention.
Module 3
As the course progresses, examine more specialized cases and practice weighing competing considerations. Use your earlier learning to make judgments without relying on familiar circumstances.
Module 4
To close the course, connect medical privacy learning with continued workplace action. Recognize when a situation needs attention and decide how to move forward.

Yes. Every PixelPupil course is available in English and in Spanish, with Spanish narration (the Spanish title is Capacitación sobre Privacidad Médica en Texas).
No course can do that on its own. This is general training based on the rules described on this page. It is not approved or endorsed by any government agency, and the certificate is a record that the person completed the course. Your organization still provides its own policies, procedures and records, and you should check the rules that apply to you with your own advisor.

General training information, not legal advice. PixelPupil courses are not approved or endorsed by any government agency and do not by themselves make an organization compliant. The certificate is a record of completion. Rules change, so check the rules that apply to your organization with your own advisor.
