The rules

What the rules require

FTA rules (49 CFR 655.14(b)(2)) require supervisors who determine reasonable suspicion to receive at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse indicators and at least 60 minutes on indicators of prohibited drug use. One trained supervisor is enough for a determination.

The course

What you will learn in FTA Reasonable-Suspicion (Supervisors) training

The course is built in modules, each with short lessons, real-world scenarios and quizzes. Here is what each module is for.

1

Module 1

For supervisors and managers, this opening module builds reasonable-suspicion awareness through introductory practice, helping you recognize when a workplace situation needs closer consideration.

2

Module 2

Move from recognition to practical judgment as supervisors and managers. Apply earlier learning to realistic transit situations and decide how to approach a concern.

3

Module 3

Broaden your reasonable-suspicion judgment through a new set of workplace situations. Supervisors and managers practice recognizing uncertainty and weighing information before deciding how to respond.

4

Module 4

Complete the learning path with integrated practice for supervisors and managers, applying reasonable-suspicion knowledge to harder transit situations and checking the reasoning behind your decisions.
