Who it's for
Supervisors who decide on reasonable-suspicion alcohol or reasonable-cause drug testing in FAA-regulated aviation employers.
The rules
FAA rules require supervisors to receive at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse (14 CFR 120.223(b)) and at least 60 minutes on drug use indicators (120.115(c)), in addition to the employee training, plus a reasonable recurrent training program. Drug reasonable cause normally needs two supervisors, one of them trained.

Recurrent training on a reasonable schedule
Supervisors also take the employee course.
The course
The course is built in modules, each with short lessons, real-world scenarios and quizzes. Here is what each module is for.
Module 1
Aviation supervisors and managers begin by exploring the course's central ideas, using early practice to recognize situations that require careful judgment rather than immediate conclusions.
Module 2
Practical application takes center stage for supervisors and managers as you work through aviation situations, compare possible responses, and explain the choices you make.
Module 3
Additional practice asks supervisors and managers to reconsider initial impressions. Extend your reasonable-cause learning by weighing less obvious situations and deciding what warrants concern.
Module 4
By combining earlier learning with harder aviation cases, supervisors and managers practice consistent judgment and check whether their reasoning supports the responses they choose.

No course can do that on its own. This is general training based on the rules described on this page. It is not approved or endorsed by any government agency, and the certificate is a record that the person completed the course. Your organization still provides its own policies, procedures and records, and you should check the rules that apply to you with your own advisor.
